Green Soybean is a versatile crop that belongs to the Fabaceae family of plants. The young tender bean pods are referred to as edamame while the mature bean is called soybean. When young and fresh, edamame beans have a fuzzy white texture on their skin. A summer-loving bush type bean, the edamame bean plant will grow up to 1.5 to 2 meters. Edamame bean pods are light green in Colour and the bean pods are have a pale green hue. Only the beans in edamame pods must be consumed after cooking. It’s best to boil or steam them for 5-6 minutes and then consume the fresh bean pods with flavoring and salt. Gardeners also use edamame as a cover crop for nitrogen fixation of the soil.
